MegaWhats is a quiz designed to answer the question `Which is India’s best open quizzing team?’.

The operative word here is `open’; anybody can form a team to participate, and any team can win.  The syllabus, to preempt the obvious question, is surprise.
The quiz will be held across nine cities simultaneously. Apart from Bangalore, we have tentative venue confirmations from Chennai, Hyderabad, Goa, Thrissur, Mumbai, Pune, New Delhi and Kolkata. More information on venues soon.
The venue in Bangalore is The Institute of Agricultural Technologists, Queen’s Road.
Date: Sunday, 13 December 2009
Info
1. General quiz, open to all.
2. Teams of FOUR members (or less).
3. Prior registration is essential.
4. To register, please email kqaquizzes@gmail.com with Mega-Whats 2009 and the city you are competing from in the subject-header.
5. Please provide the names of the four people who comprise your team in the email–also indicate whether you are taking part in the school or open categories
6. Email registrations will close on Sunday 6th December 2009.  Centre coordinators will allow entries after the cut-off date at their discretion.
7. Please note that the quizzing community in your city may charge an entry fee to meet venue and equipment hire expenses.
8. The school category is open only to teams comprising students from Std. VIII-X .
9. School teams ( Std. VIII-X) are allowed free entry. A school may field a maximum of TWO teams (of four members each)
10. Please report by 1430hrs at the venue in your city. The quiz will start at 1500hrs (sharp) and end by 1730hrs.
11. Contesting teams will answer a quiz of six sections and about sixty questions, inclusive of audios, videos and visuals.
12. Answers and scores will be announced on the same day–prizes will be given out for Best School Team and Best Open Team.
13. The prizes are small–Rs. 250 x4 for the Open and School winners.
14. We will also announce a national winner and rank the top 100 teams across the country–this list will go up by the 25th of December.
15. The rankings will be announced after adjudication. The decision of the quiz-master will be final and binding on all participants.

The final rounds of Texas Instruments science and technology quiz was held at St John’s auditorium, Bangalore on Sunday(22nd November 2009).

This year, Sri Kumaran Public School’s (Bangalore) Atihith K and Subham Nandy, both Class 9 students, won at the regional and national finals. Beating last year’s finalists S Varun Raja Gopal and V Harish Krishna from Padma Seshadri Bala Bhavan Senior Secondary School, Chennai, the Kumaran team went on to win Sony Vaio notebooks.

The regional quiz round started on October 30 in Kolkatta, followed by Delhi, Chennai and Pune. In the regional round in Bangalore held on Sunday, 55 schools, 261 teams and 522 children participated. Also, at the regional round, Anjana Krishnamurthy won the `lonely discoverer of hidden talent’ award.

At the regional finals, the Kumaran team from Bangalore won the first prize, Padma Seshadri Bala Bhavan Senior Secondry School, Chennai, was first runner-up and Delhi Public School, Ghaziabad, came third. Other teams were from Abhinaya Vidyalaya English Medium High School, Pune and Birla High School, Kolkata.

Winner Shubham expressed joy in winning and anxiety in facing a school test to be held on Monday. “I had dual pressure. One from my teammate Atihith to prepare for the quiz, and second from my parents to prepare for tomorrow’s test.”

Atihith said his school team won the third prize last year. “This year, our head madam wanted us to come first. We are happy for achieving it,” said Atihith.

According to the winning team, it was daily learning habits like reading newspapers and science magazines, which helped them to prepare for the quiz.

B Bobby Mitra, president and MD, Texas Instrument, India, said: “This is the seventh year of the national-level quiz. We plan to expand it to more cities.”

The Quiz is conducted by: Ochintya Sharma of KQA

The Delhi edition of the quiz shattered all previous records of the quiz with 909 teams from over 100 schools taking part in the contest. For the first time in the history of the quiz two prelims were held to accommodate all the teams. It was a complete blockbuster.
The final was extremely exciting with the action moving right till the last minute. In the final round the young duo from New Era English School got cracking on the buzzer to move into the third position with all the other teams finishing joint fourth. Sardar Patel settled for the runner up spot and DPS Noida keeping a very close watch on the scores, took no undue risks to ensure they won the title they just missed a year ago.
